GMI: New Technologies Coming to 2012 GMC Terrain in Columbia SC

The 2011 GMC Terrain is available now at Jim Hudson GMC in Columbia, SC.

Reports are coming from GM Inside News that the 2012 GMC Terrain will receive additional safety and connectivity technologies not available on the 2011 model.

The 2011 GMC Terrain has been wildly popular among Columbia drivers for its spacious interior, standard features including a rear vision camera and USB port for iPod connections, and an EPA-estimated 32 highway miles per gallon.  Reportedly joining the lineup is a brand new upgraded infotainment system, replacing the navigation system that debuted with the model (and the Buick LaCrosse) in 2010.  This upgraded system would offer enhanced smartphone and media player integration, including Pandora Internet Radio, hands-free voice commands, and a new touchscreen interface featuring a higher-resolution screen.

Additional safety features reported to be available in 2012 will only bolster the GMC Terrain’s reputation around Columbia as an exceptionally safe crossover SUV.  Lane Departure Warning will reportedly become available, using two cameras in the front that monitor highway markings when at speed.  If the Terrain were to veer out of the lane without a turn signal active, a beep and indicator on the instrument panel would warn the driver to take corrective action.  Blind spot detection uses sensors in the back bumper to help alert drivers to cars occupying places harder to detect when changing lanes, adding a flashing indicator in the side view mirror to add an additional point of data when drivers are deciding when it’s safe to move over.  Lastly, a collision avoidance system is rumored to be in the works, though GMI’s sources did not share specifics about that system.  Considering the GMC Terrain is already an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick, these additional technologies will only make its safety reputation stronger.

These reports will be confirmed or denied once production of 2012 GMC Terrain models begins on July 18 at its plant in Ontario, Canada, and Columbia shoppers will be able to purchase them a few weeks later once they complete their 868-mile trip.  The 2012 GMC Terrain will be available from Jim Hudson GMC, the #1 GMC dealer in the state of South Carolina with nearly 30 years of experience providing exceptional customer service to GMC truck and SUV owners statewide.  Jim Hudson has been voted Best New Car Dealership an unmatched ten years in a row and counting by readers of The State, which only serves to underscore its commitment to complete customer satisfaction.  Jim Hudson GMC is located at 7201 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia, South Carolina, and can be reached at (803) 783-0110.  For more information, visit their Columbia SC GMC Terrain website.
